Exnovation may sound a bit weird, but we are all familiar with the concept. When something new emerges, something old gives way. This happens when new technologies become established, behaviors change, harmful products are discontinued, or general decluttering takes place. Well-known examples include the development of the smartphone, the spread of human-centered work, the phase-out of CFCs, or throwing away your old couch. In a business context, exnovation means consciously and courageously parting with products, projects, and processes that are no longer effective and block important resources for new things (innovation).
